Lockheed Martin , in collaboration with Blackshark.ai, has unveiled Prepar3D Fuse, a groundbreaking simulation environment designed to transform how modern soldiers train for complex, multi-domain missions. Developed on a customized version of Unreal Engine 5, the new platform merges Lockheed Martin’s decades-long expertise in advanced simulation with cutting-edge commercial graphics technology and AI-generated global terrain. The result is a single, unified training ecosystem capable of supporting everything from basic flight instruction to large-scale joint operations.

According to Adam Breed, Lockheed Martin’s Chief of Innovation, Prepar3D Fuse represents a major leap forward in synthetic training. “By combining our proven SAGE and Prepar3D technologies with Unreal Engine’s real-time rendering and Blackshark.ai’s detailed digital globe, we’re delivering an unprecedented level of realism while reducing development timelines and overall training costs,” Breed explained. His remarks highlight the program’s dual focus: enhancing fidelity while streamlining delivery.

Blackshark.ai CEO Michael Putz described the launch as a pivotal moment in the evolution of simulation. “This marks the beginning of reality and simulation converging toward omniscient worlds that think, evolve, and remain in perfect sync with a changing planet,” he said, emphasizing the platform’s potential to create training environments that adapt dynamically with real-world conditions.

Prepar3D Fuse introduces a rich suite of next-generation capabilities. Its full-planet, material-encoded globe incorporates over 1,000 geo-referenced airports and highly detailed cityscapes, all generated by Blackshark.ai’s advanced terrain engine.

Complementing this visual fidelity are physically accurate atmospheric models, multi-spectral sensor simulations, and Lockheed Martin’s SAGE Infrared Math Model, enabling operators to train against realistic weather, lighting, and sensor conditions.

To support complex mission scenarios, the platform includes an AI-driven semi-automated forces engine that can generate believable unit behavior—from individual crew interactions to brigade-level movement—dramatically lowering the need for live role-players and allowing instructors to build scenarios more efficiently.

Additionally, Prepar3D Fuse adheres to major interoperability standards such as Distributed Interactive Simulation (DIS) and Common Image Generator Interface (CIGI), while integrating seamlessly with native Unreal Engine workflows. This ensures compatibility with legacy systems and rapid integration of new content.

Designed to enhance live, virtual, and constructive training environments, Prepar3D Fuse will be deployed across Lockheed Martin’s global portfolio of training devices. Its open architecture allows defense organizations to quickly customize and adopt the system, ensuring that operators receive the highest fidelity training available—anytime, anywhere.
