Highlighting its commitment to innovation and environmental responsibility, igus will unveil eco-friendly solutions at Hannover Messe 2025. The motion plastics expert will feature new PTFE-free materials, cable carriers produced from recycled content, and a newly introduced dry cleanroom certification for its e-chain cable carriers, developed in partnership with Fraunhofer IPA.
“Our goal continues to be offering ‘made in Germany’ products that boost our customers' competitiveness by delivering sustainable and cost-efficient solutions without sacrificing quality,” states Michael Blass, CEO of e-chain systems at igus.
PTFE-Free Materials
igus has proactively responded to regulatory shifts surrounding polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) by developing alternative materials. After thorough in-house testing, these new formulations have been proven to outperform traditional PTFE-based options. The company now offers PTFE-free versions across its complete range of iglidur standard materials, expanding its lineup of PFAS-tested and PTFE-free solutions—including linear guides, slewing ring bearings, and tribotape liners.

Cable Carriers from Recycled Materials
As part of its commitment to sustainability, igus continues to grow its “chainge” recycling initiative, which repurposes used energy chains, fishing nets, and other waste materials. Following the successful launch of a recycled energy chain in 2022, igus is now converting its entire E2.1 series to this eco-friendly material. This shift reduces the carbon footprint by approximately 80% while maintaining mechanical performance and cost-efficiency.
“With this recycled product line, we enable our customers to take an active role in advancing the circular economy for plastics,” says Blass.
Dry Cleanroom Certification
To meet the rising demand driven by electric vehicle (EV) battery production, igus has partnered with Fraunhofer IPA to implement long-term cleanroom certifications for its products. The E6.29 e-chain, already approved for cleanroom use, has demonstrated consistent high performance. Additionally, the e-skin soft SKS28 achieved ISO Class 4 certification after completing 15 million double strokes over a ten-month testing period. The E6 energy chain also continues to deliver reliable results under cleanroom conditions.
Visitors to Hannover Messe 2025 are invited to stop by igus at Hall 6, Stand E26 to discover these cutting-edge and eco-conscious motion plastics technologies.
