A robot developed at University of California, Berkeley, plays table tennis. Called the Humanoid Table TEnnis Robot, the innovation can play table tennis with human beings. The robot plays table tennis like a professional athlete using hierarchical planning and learning. The robot achieved up to 106 consecutive shots with a human opponent. It also sustained exchanges against another humanoid robot. The experiment is a significant a step toward agile and interactive humanoid behaviors.
