ANYbotics, a prominent provider of AI-powered robotic inspection technologies, has introduced a new Gas Leak and Presence Detection system for its ANYmal robot, aiming to revolutionize the way industrial facilities detect and handle hazardous and expensive gas leaks.

This newly launched solution presents an all-encompassing method for gas leak detection in industrial settings. It combines state-of-the-art, modular gas sensors with a 360° acoustic imaging system to accurately locate leak sources while concurrently measuring surrounding gas levels.

Equipped with an advanced acoustic imaging camera, the system can identify various common industrial gas leaks, including steam, compressed air, vacuum, toxic gases, and hydrocarbons. Additionally, it can detect partial discharges and mechanical faults. The solution calculates the loss rate and associated cost, seamlessly transmitting this critical data to Data Navigator, ANYbotics’ dedicated platform for inspection insights and asset management.

Gas leaks pose a serious yet often unseen threat in industrial settings, particularly in petrochemical facilities where fugitive emissions are common. An undetected leak can lead to losses exceeding $57,000 per year for a single site, in addition to the associated safety hazards. ANYbotics addresses these issues directly with its latest solution.

The ANYmal robot’s mobile acoustic imaging camera provides exceptional coverage and can easily access hard-to-reach or expensive inspection zones that traditional fixed sensors cannot. This mobility enables inspection and maintenance teams to detect more leaks and proactively spot weaknesses in essential piping systems, ultimately preventing future leaks and achieving substantial annual cost savings.

The modular design of the new Gas Presence Detection solution allows users to easily interchange multiple gas sensors based on specific detection needs—whether for oxygen, hydrocarbons, ammonia, or other gases—and calibrate them directly on-site.

This adaptability enables the ANYmal robot to continuously monitor a wide range of gas concentrations around its body during both autonomous and remote-controlled operations, significantly improving safety in areas where fixed sensors have limited reach. Additionally, the system includes customizable threshold settings that trigger alerts when gas levels exceed safe limits.

Conventional manual inspections often fail to detect existing leaks or early signs of pipeline deterioration, such as slight temperature variations or abnormal sounds. These inspections tend to be sporadic, labor-intensive, and poorly documented, leaving critical systems vulnerable and allowing many gas leaks to go unnoticed resulting in costly and hazardous outcomes.

ANYbotics' Gas Leak and Presence Detection solution removes uncertainty and reduces human error by delivering reliable, continuous, and comprehensive leak detection under all environmental conditions—far surpassing the capabilities of traditional methods.

Péter Fankhauser, CEO of ANYbotics, stated that the new Gas Leak and Presence Detection solution is a game-changer for industrial leak detection and prevention.

"By combining ANYmal’s autonomous navigation with modular gas detectors and a 360° acoustic imaging payload, we’re providing a powerful, flexible tool that significantly enhances safety and drives substantial cost savings for our customers. Our autonomous mobile robots can now detect the source of leaks, quantify the loss, and alert personnel in real-time. By extending coverage across the entire facility, we’re providing a level of precision and efficiency that reduces operational costs, improves safety, and lowers emissions," said Fankhauser.

Additional InformationANYbotics’ latest Gas Leak and Presence Detection solution fully automates the process of measuring gas concentrations and identifying leaks. By combining ANYmal’s advanced autonomous navigation with cutting-edge sensor technology, the system offers practical, measurable benefits:

Cost Savings: Detecting leaks early and pinpointing their exact location helps reduce product loss and energy waste, leading to significant reductions in operational expenses.

Comprehensive Coverage: The integration of 360° acoustic imaging with multi-gas detection ensures thorough monitoring across entire facilities, including complex or hard-to-reach areas that traditional fixed sensors often overlook.

Cost Visibility: The system not only detects leaks but also measures their size and flow rate, turning otherwise invisible losses into clear, quantifiable financial data that aids in impact assessment and prioritization.

Improved Safety: By identifying fugitive gases and automating inspections in hazardous or inaccessible zones, ANYmal reduces the need for human exposure to dangerous conditions, enhancing site safety and regulatory compliance.

Actionable Insights for Maintenance: Frequent, autonomous inspections provide valuable trend data that supports predictive maintenance strategies and more efficient scheduling of repairs.

Reduced Emissions & Better Compliance: Early detection and resolution of leaks support environmental compliance efforts and help facilities meet sustainability goals by lowering overall emissions.

Adaptable Deployment: The modular payload design lets users select the specific sensors they require—be it acoustic imaging for detecting mechanical issues, gas concentration sensors for identifying hazardous levels, or a combination of both—offering a customized and cost-efficient solution.
